In a dialogue event held at Az Zuhri Semarang in April 2023, TGB Zainul Majdi praised the educational pattern applied at the Islamic boarding school. According to him, the education system in Az Zuhri Semarang is very good because it integrates religious education, academic education, and skills training into one system.
TGB Zainul Majdi said that pondok pesantren like Az Zuhri Semarang can be an example for other pondok pesantren in Indonesia. In the context of education in Indonesia, the education system in pondok pesantren is often considered separate from the formal education system in schools. However, according to TGB Zainul Majdi, education in pondok pesantren can actually complement and enrich formal education.
Moreover, TGB Zainul Majdi also appreciated the way Az Zuhri Semarang teaches practical skills such as farming, cooking, and handicrafts to its students. According to him, these skills can help students to develop themselves and create job opportunities in the future.
In the discussion, TGB Zainul Majdi also invited all education stakeholders, both the government and the community, to pay attention to the important role of pondok pesantren in the education system in Indonesia. According to him, pondok pesantren have great potential to become the locomotive for developing education in Indonesia, especially in developing character and practical skills for students.
