Halmahera Selatan, WartaGlobal.Id – Another disgraceful scandal has shaken the police institution. An officer of Bacan Timur Police Sector, identified by the initial S, is strongly suspected of impregnating a woman, F, a resident of Babang Village. The case has ignited public outrage and raised serious questions about the commitment of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to uphold honor and integrity within its ranks.
Dark Chronology
The case began with a personal relationship between S and F that had lasted for some time. In March, the two allegedly engaged in intimate relations. Two months later, in May, the victim tested positive for pregnancy. The pregnancy was later confirmed by an ultrasound at RSUD Marabose, which showed the fetus was already four months old.
Ironically, instead of taking responsibility, S treated the matter as if it were trivial. He admitted to having relations with the victim but dismissed it under the pretext of “domestic issues.”
“Yes, we did sleep together, and if we count the months, it matches, I admit that. But she shouldn’t make a fuss, let’s settle this quietly. The problem is my wife keeps getting angry,” S told reporters nonchalantly.
The Victim Speaks Out
According to F, her relationship with S was initially smooth. But once the pregnancy was confirmed, his attitude changed drastically. He began to avoid her and even denied that the unborn child was his.
“He said the baby might not be his. At first, he treated me well, but after I became pregnant, he started avoiding me,” F said with a trembling voice.
To make matters worse, F claimed she was pressured by S’s legal wife, who forced her to forget about the promised religious marriage (nikah siri). This left the victim under immense psychological and social pressure.
Police Response
The Chief of Bacan Timur Police confirmed that mediation efforts had been made but ended in failure.
“We facilitated mediation between officer Sahbudin and the woman, but no agreement was reached,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a member of the South Halmahera Police’s Internal Affairs (Propam) unit advised the victim to take the matter directly to the National Police’s Division of Professional Standards (Propam) for an official and more impartial investigation.
Strong Condemnation from Legal Experts
Legal practitioner Yeri Kakanok, S.H. stressed that the case cannot be taken lightly. He pointed out that S’s actions involved two layers of violation: a criminal offense under Article 284 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on adultery, and a breach of Polri’s code of ethics.
“This is not a private matter. There is a clear criminal element and an undeniable ethical breach. If left unaddressed, public trust in the police will collapse. Firm sanctions are mandatory, including dismissal without honor (PTDH),” Yeri asserted.
Public Demands
The scandal has triggered a strong public reaction in South Halmahera. The community believes the case not only victimizes one woman but also tarnishes the dignity of the entire police force. Public trust—already fragile—risks being further eroded.
Demands are mounting for the South Halmahera Police Chief and North Maluku Police Propam to intervene directly. The public insists on a process that is transparent, swift, and uncompromising.
Legal Grounds
-
Article 284 of the Criminal Code (KUHP): Adultery is a criminal offense.
-
Polri’s Code of Ethics (Regulation No. 14/2011): Strictly prohibits disgraceful conduct that damages the institution’s image.
-
Government Regulation No. 1/2003: Severe violations can result in dismissal without honor (PTDH).
A Critical Test for Polri
This case has placed Bacan Timur Police and the South Halmahera Police under sharp public scrutiny. Allowing the case to fade would not only disgrace one officer but would stain the honor of the entire Indonesian National Police. Silence would amount to betrayal of the Bhayangkara oath and the people’s trust.
The victim has vowed to escalate the case to Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri). She plans to report through the 110 call center or the National Police Public Relations WhatsApp hotline (0896-8233-3678) with supporting evidence. The public now waits: will the police uphold justice without compromise, or will this scandal be buried and forgotten?
