Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko, S.H., M.H., has issued a Daily Directive specifically ordering tougher oversight of foreign nationals (WNA) amid a 15% surge in overstay cases in the first quarter of 2026.

Bali recorded 2,347 residence permit violations out of 12,104 national cases, according to data from the Class I Immigration Office Denpasar.

The directive from the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections prioritizes four key points on WNA management.

First, strengthen personnel integrity and professionalism to uphold the institution’s reputation in the international community.

Second, boost digital-based public services for foreigners, such as online visa applications and residence permit extensions now processed within 48 hours, to close loopholes for abuse.

Third, tighten supervision and law enforcement synergy through joint raids with the National Police and Satpol PP. The focus: overstays, which account for 68% of WNA violations in Bali, plus illegal activities like working without permits in tourism and property sectors.

Fourth, improve competency through innovative training, including using AI to detect overstay patterns based on immigration big data.

In his closing remarks, Hendarsam Marantoko stated, “Good luck on duty, may God Almighty always bless every BHUMI step of our service,” with the motto “Immigration for the people.”

The data comes from the Directorate General of Immigration’s official report as of April 30, 2026, which also noted a rise in deportations of Russian nationals by 25% and Chinese nationals by 18% due to overstays.

The move aims to prevent negative impacts on Bali tourism, where 40% of visitors are foreigners, while supporting the government’s bureaucratic reform
