Bandung Smart City is a government project aimed at developing the city of Bandung into a more modern and digitally integrated city. However, the project became the center of attention after allegations of corruption involving several government officials and contractors emerged.
After conducting an investigation, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) designated six individuals as suspects in this case, including the Mayor of Bandung, Oded M Danial. In addition to the Mayor, there are also the Head of the Bandung Communications and Information Agency, the Head of the Bandung Transportation Agency, the Head of the Bandung Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency, as well as two contractors.
In this case, they are suspected of committing acts of corruption related to the procurement of goods and services in the Bandung Smart City project. The modus operandi they used included price inflation and project value mark-ups. The total state losses incurred are estimated to be in the billions of rupiah.
This case is very regrettable because Bandung Smart City should have been a project that could provide benefits to the community. However, the corrupt actions taken by several government officials and contractors have instead made this project pointless.
