SINGKAWANG, Kalimantan Barat - The case of the criminal assault on Sigit Aditia bin Alan Nurio (23), a student at the School of Aeronautics Technology (STTKD) Yogyakarta, which led to his tragic death in the early hours of Sunday, March 26, 2023, has now reached the courtroom of the Singkawang District Court in West Kalimantan. The trial has entered its sixth session.
On Wednesday (08/09/23), the sixth session took place with the reading of defense pleas (pledois) by the suspects. The Singkawang District Prosecutor's Office appointed its Public Prosecutor, Edi Kusbiyantoro, SH, MH, to present the case.
Amidst this series of events, the family of the late Sigit Aditya sought assistance from the legal team of LBH MBK - HOTMAN 911-FBI - AABB on August 9, 2023. The family requested legal support to oversee the legal proceedings of the assault case that resulted in the loss of a life, which is currently being heard at the Singkawang District Court.
The family highlighted certain irregularities. They pointed out that although CCTV footage showed more than 9 individuals involved in the assault, only 9 suspects were identified by the investigators. Furthermore, during the trial phase, the Public Prosecutor declined to present the crucial CCTV footage depicting the assault, which clearly revealed the numerous assailants.
A stern message was directed towards the Public Prosecutor at the Singkawang District Court, reminding them of their duty to uphold the law according to the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP). The process of proving the case must be transparent and without concealment, as the role of the Public Prosecutor is to represent the interests of the victim's rights, not the interests of the accused.
