South Lampung, RedMOL.id - Ahead of the peak of the second wave of the 2026 Eid homecoming return flow on March 28–29, Bakauheni Port continues to experience a surge in the volume of vehicles and passengers crossing to Java Island. This condition indicates that the return movement of travelers has not yet reached its peak.
The President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Heru Widodo, stated that the surge is expected to occur in several waves, including Thursday night and toward the weekend.
“We predict there will be several waves of passenger surges, possibly tonight and then on the 28th and 29th,” he said during a press conference at the Executive Terminal of Bakauheni Port.
ASDP data shows that there are still 121,623 vehicles, or around 51 percent, that have not yet returned to Java Island. Meanwhile, 118,297 vehicles have checked in and crossed. For passengers, 444,233 people have returned, or 49 percent of the total, while another 454,641 people remain in Sumatra.
Despite light rain that briefly fell in the port area, loading and unloading activities at seven docks continued to operate normally. In fact, temporary shelters for motorcycle travelers were filled to capacity, indicating high public enthusiasm for departing earlier.
The General Manager of ASDP Bakauheni Branch, Partogi Tamba, noted that the surge has been noticeable since the second day after Eid (H+2) and continues to increase significantly.
“We ensure service readiness both in terms of operations and facilities to anticipate the surge during the peak period,” he said.
Based on data from the Bakauheni Command Post, in the last 24 hours there were 146 ship trips carrying a total of 51,751 passengers, an increase of 30.5 percent compared to last year. The number of vehicles reached 14,094 units, up 45.3 percent, with motorcycles experiencing the highest increase at 59.4 percent.
ASDP emphasized its full readiness to handle this gradual return flow, including anticipating vehicles that have not yet checked in to prevent congestion in the port area. Red
