As of May 2026, Indonesia Tightens Tourist Visa Rules. Working Illegally = Career Over

Jakarta , WorldWartaGlobal. Id
Indonesian immigration has significantly stepped up enforcement against foreigners conducting commercial activities without the proper visa or work permit. As of May 2026, anyone caught working, promoting, or creating paid content on a tourist visa faces detention and deportation.

Authorities made it clear: Tourist Visa C1 and Visa on Arrival VoA are for tourism only*. Not for making money.

Activities now considered illegal on a tourist visa include:
- Sponsored social media content
- Paid brand collaborations
- Free accommodation or products in exchange for promotion
- Paid photography or videography services
- Commercial activities involving local businesses
- Unpaid volunteering without proper permits

What’s catching people off guard: immigration is now using social media monitoring and biometric tracking to identify violations. Posting “just vacation” won’t cut it anymore.

The consequences are serious:
1. Detention and deportation on the spot
2. You pay for your own deportation flight
3. Blacklisted from Indonesia for up to 20 years

Immigration officials warn that if you plan to work, collaborate with brands, host retreats, or operate as an influencer in Indonesia, you must secure the correct visa and permits first.

The legal solution:
Get a KITAS + IMTA
That’s the proper route for working and residing legally in Indonesia.

The message is blunt: “Indonesia welcomes tourists. But if you want to earn money here, follow the rules. Don’t try to game the system.”
