Bali Immigration has deported a Nigerian national identified by the initials IO after he was found to have overstayed his immigration permit by 93 days.
IO entered Indonesia on November 17, 2025, through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on a Visit Visa. His stay permit was valid until May 15, 2026, but he neither extended his permit nor left Indonesia.
While in Bali, IO stayed at several locations around Canggu. He told officers that he could not return to Nigeria because he did not have enough money to buy a flight ticket.
After being reported to the police on August 13, 2026, IO was detained by Kuta Police Sector and handed over to Bali Immigration on August 16.
Immigration imposed an Administrative Immigration Action in the form of deportation and proposed that IO be placed on the immigration prevention list in accordance with applicable regulations.
Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Novyandri stressed that financial difficulties do not eliminate a foreign national’s obligation to comply with Indonesian immigration rules.
IO was deported on August 18, 2026, aboard Qatar Airways flight QR961 from Denpasar to Doha, before continuing to Lagos, Nigeria.
The message from Immigration is clear: a stay permit has a deadline. Overstaying means facing Indonesian immigration law.
