Kerobokan Prison Raided Again! Warden Reportedly Dismissed, "VIP" Foreign Drug Inmates Network Under Scrutiny

Kerobokan Class IIA Prison is back in the spotlight. After a dawn raid on Wednesday, May 20, rumors are swirling that Warden Hudi Ismono has been dismissed from his post.

The large-scale inspection by the Directorate of Corrections, Security and Intelligence of the Directorate General of Corrections under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections swept through all inmate blocks around 2:00 AM WITA. The result? Narcotics, illegal cellphones, and alcohol were found inside the prison.

What’s raising more heat: officers also found indications that banned items were being stored and coordinated via mobile phones. The case is still under investigation.

Not Just the Warden, KPLP Officials Also Pulled In
In the wake of the findings, it’s not just the warden’s seat that’s shaky. The Head of the Prison Security Unit and two of his staff have also been pulled to the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections for questioning.

When contacted, Hudi Ismono gave a brief reply via WhatsApp: “Please confirm with the regional office.”
Bali Regional Head of the Directorate General of Corrections, Decky Nurmansyah, also declined to comment much. “Investigations are still ongoing,” he said on Sunday, May 24.

The Old Issue Resurfaces:
“VIP” Foreign Inmates and Tender Lawyers
This isn’t the first time Kerobokan has been raided. What’s fueling public anger is the resurfacing of long-standing allegations about “sponsored” foreign inmates in drug cases getting special treatment.

Rumors claim that certain tender lawyers linked to the Bali Police and BNN are behind VIP facilities and legal protection for specific foreign nationals.

Other lawyers have also complained. They say they’re often blocked when handling clients, and are even pressured to use tender lawyers instead.

A previous joint raid by the Directorate General of Corrections, BNN RI, and Bali Police had already exposed alleged drug trafficking and banned items inside the prison. But the big question remains: who’s protecting this network from the inside?

This latest Kerobokan case has cracked open an old wound. The public is now waiting to see if the warden’s dismissal is just a scapegoat, or actually the first step toward dismantling the “sponsored” network that’s allegedly operated behind bars for years.
