Bali – WartaGlobal.Id — Competition among online media outlets in Indonesia has intensified alongside the rapid growth of internet use and changing patterns of public information consumption. In this environment, communication management has become an important factor in maintaining journalistic quality, organizational effectiveness, and media sustainability.

A study entitled “Communication Management Strategy of PT Warta Global Republik Online Media in Overcoming Competition Among Media Outlets,” published in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Science and Education in 2023, examined how PT Warta Global Republik developed its communication management strategy as a relatively new online media company facing competition in the digital media industry.

The study, conducted by Isbat Usman, Andrian Anwar L. Nata, and Hengki Irawan, employed a qualitative approach using the POAC framework: Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling.

Four Strategic Pillars

Under Planning, Warta Global’s management evaluates previous performance, maintains strategies considered effective, and revises or replaces approaches that are no longer effective.

Under Organizing, communication is developed through a journalistic organizational approach to support coordination and the distribution of responsibilities within the news-production process.

The Actuating stage focuses on effective managerial communication to mobilize the editorial team and translate organizational strategies into journalistic activities.

Meanwhile, Controlling places editorial supervision at the center of quality control. The Editor-in-Chief oversees published articles to ensure that they comply with the organization’s internal rules and editorial standards.

Communication Management as a Competitive Instrument

The study indicates that the implementation of the POAC framework is an important component of effective communication management within an online media organization.

The findings also demonstrate that competition among media outlets is not solely determined by the speed of publishing information. Organizational structure, editorial coordination, internal communication, performance evaluation, and editorial supervision are equally relevant to a media organization’s ability to respond to competition.

From a media-management perspective, communication strategy therefore extends beyond how news is delivered to audiences. It also concerns how an organization manages its human resources, editorial workflow, leadership communication, and quality-control mechanisms.

A Journalistic Perspective

The study provides an academic perspective on how online media organizations can build adaptive management systems amid a rapidly changing digital environment.

For the digital media industry, the challenge is not simply who publishes the news first, but how a media organization builds a consistent, measurable, and accountable system for producing and delivering information to the public.

WartaGlobal.Id views the study as relevant academic documentation of communication management in online media and the continuing transformation of Indonesia’s digital media landscape.
