Publik Speaker Ferry Irwandi has faced harsh attacks from accounts suspected of being buzzers after criticizing the ratification of the revised Indonesian National Armed Forces Law (UU TNI). He claims to have experienced character assassination attempts and threats against those closest to him. Despite this, Ferry stated that he will not back down and will use other channels to voice his criticism.
Ferry is concerned that the ratification of the TNI Law could lead to a return to the TNI's dual function policy, as it was during the New Order era, where military personnel could occupy civilian positions and potentially disrupt the recruitment of State Civil Apparatus (ASN). He also highlighted the differences between military education and civilian government, which could create conflicts of interest.
The ratification of the TNI Law sparked controversy among the public due to three revised articles contained within it: Article 3 concerning the Position of the TNI in the Government Structure, Article 47 concerning the Placement of Active Soldiers in Civilian Positions, and Article 53 concerning the Extension of the Retirement Age for TNI Soldiers. Ferry Irwandi is adamant that his criticism of the TNI Law will not stop, even though he has to face pressure and threats.
