Jade by Todd English is now at the center of attention. The nightlife venue in Canggu has come under scrutiny following allegations of employing illegal foreign workers, prompting a serious investigation by the Badung Regency Government.

The Badung Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Agency (DPMPTSP) has begun tracing the business’s licensing status and potential violations on the ground. The probe covers not only administrative compliance but also suspected labor practices that have recently gone viral.

Head of DPMPTSP Badung, Made Surya Dharma, stated that although authority over foreign labor primarily lies with the central government and the provincial Manpower Office, his agency remains responsible for overseeing business permits. Firm action will be taken if violations are found. “If there are indications of violations or lack of proper permits, we will take strict action,” he said on Tuesday (May 19).

Jade has drawn heightened attention after allegations surfaced that it employed foreign workers without proper permits. Authorities are currently verifying licensing documents, including the registered company name and business address.

This step is considered crucial to ensure operational legality and to confirm whether any violations related to illegal foreign workers have occurred. Meanwhile, Bali DPRD Commission IV member I Gusti Agung Bagus Tri Candra Arka acknowledged that the use of foreign workers in several nightlife venues across Canggu is widespread.

However, he emphasized that determining their legal status must involve proper inspection by authorized institutions. The politician, commonly known as Gung Cok, urged relevant agencies to intensify field inspections, including examining business ownership allegedly linked to foreign nationals. “It is appropriate that the Licensing Agency is conducting checks. From there, all operational aspects of these venues, including potential illegal foreign workers, will be revealed,” he asserted.

The case involving Jade is seen as a gateway for authorities to tighten control over nightlife businesses in Canggu not only in terms of licensing but also compliance with labor regulations.
