BADUNG REGENT HIGHLIGHTS ILLEGAL FOREIGN WORKERS, JADE CLUB FACES HEAVY SANCTIONS IF PROVEN TO EMPLOY WNA WITHOUT PERMITS

MANGUPURA, BALIMay 12, 2026
The alleged presence of illegal foreign workers at several nightlife venues in Badung Regency, including Jade by Todd English, has drawn direct attention from Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa. The top official of Gumi Keris stressed that violations involving foreign workers must be dealt with firmly according to the law.

The issue of illegal foreign workers allegedly working on the front lines of nightlife venues sparked a swift response from the local government. Although he has not received a detailed report, Adi Arnawa confirmed he will immediately investigate the truth of the information by involving relevant agencies.

"I have not received complete information, so to avoid mistakes I will first ask for information from the Head of Tourism Agency. If it is true that a nightclub is using foreign workers, we must first look at the regulations. Are they here as tourists or actually working here," Adi Arnawa said Tuesday, May 12, afternoon.

According to him, misuse of stay permits, such as tourists working illegally, is a serious violation that cannot be tolerated. Cross-sector coordination is key to strengthening supervision.

He affirmed he will immediately instruct the Tourism Agency to coordinate with Immigration to ensure supervision of foreign worker activities runs optimally. "Later I will ask the Head of Tourism Agency to coordinate with Immigration, so there is synergy in supervising these foreign workers. If they violate, they must be dealt with firmly according to applicable regulations," he stressed.

Adi Arnawa also reminded that Bali as a world tourism destination must maintain its image. Security, order, and compliance with regulations are important factors in maintaining tourist trust.

"If they indeed violate, they must be dealt with firmly, including the company that employs them. However, Bali must be maintained so it truly becomes a safe destination for tourists," said the former Badung Regional Secretary.

Regarding the idea of limiting or setting quotas for foreign workers in Badung, Adi Arnawa said it requires careful study and cannot be decided unilaterally. The policy, he said, must be discussed with the Bali Provincial Government and the central government so it does not conflict with higher regulations.

"If we talk about tourism, it cannot be partial to Badung alone. All policies certainly apply to Bali. The suggestion is good, but it must be calculated first and there must be regulations. Those regulations also must not conflict with higher rules," he concluded.
