Responding to a post that suddenly went viral on social media from an unidentified account, Australian national identified by the initials JM has finally issued an official response. The narrative circulating online is considered to contain negative framing, defamation, and an attempt to exploit public sentiment without being supported by verified facts.
Unwilling to let the issue spiral further in the digital space, JM highlighted several fundamental contradictions in the narrative posted by an Instagram account identified by the initials Belda BS.
First, the poster is allegedly spreading unverified rumors or hearsay.
In the post, the uploader openly acknowledged that the information being shared was merely based on something they had heard and that they could not guarantee the truth of the story. This admission reinforces the view that the serious allegations being made are based entirely on rumors without factual evidence, potentially falling under provisions of Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law) concerning the dissemination of false information and defamation.
Second, the forced association of character.
Rather than explaining what actually happened in the recent incident, the uploader allegedly attempted to link the incident shown in the latest viral video to claims about an alleged past incident that the uploader themselves acknowledged had a different context. This attempt to force an association is viewed as a form of character assassination, aimed at shaping public perception before any allegations have been legally established.
Third, the alleged exploitation of emotional sentiment.
The use of provocative wording that triggers group-based sentiment on social media is seen as a form of trial by netizen. “Yes, the narrative appears to have been designed to provoke emotions and generate engagement rather than to objectively seek justice,” said the man, who is fluent in Indonesian, in Denpasar.
Facing the situation, Jake’s side emphasized its commitment to resolving the matter through proper and measured legal channels. He intends to present an objective chronology of what actually happened, based on facts on the ground, while firmly rejecting the unsupported allegations made by the uploader.
He also stressed his full compliance with the legal procedures and official institutions applicable in Indonesia, including the Police and Immigration authorities, in order to counter the negative stigma created on social media.
His side is seriously considering the possibility of filing a criminal complaint and issuing a legal warning (somasi) against parties allegedly responsible for spreading defamatory and false statements that have caused both moral and material damage to the victim’s reputation.
The move is intended to ensure that objective legal facts remain the primary basis for determining the matter, while also restoring JM’s good name amid a wave of speculative opinions circulating in the digital space.
JM also disclosed Jake’s version of the chronology concerning his encounter with Theo, a French national, in the Jalan Uluwatu area on Friday (August 7) at approximately 1:30 p.m. Central Indonesian Time (WITA).
According to JM, the encounter occurred by chance. At the time, Jake and Theo happened to pass each other on the road. After seeing Theo, Jake asked him to stop so they could talk. The two then engaged in a conversation.
During the encounter, Jake reportedly raised the issue of an outstanding restaurant rental payment, which he claimed had not yet been settled by Theo.
Jake questioned Theo about the payment for the restaurant rental. He expressed his objection, saying that he believed the rental obligation had not been fulfilled. According to JM, Jake believed that Theo had shown no intention from the beginning of settling the payment.
“That was what eventually caused JM to become angry with him,” JM claimed.
The conversation between the two subsequently became increasingly heated. Jake reportedly felt that Theo’s attitude at the time was inappropriate, making the situation uncomfortable.
Nevertheless, the situation allegedly did not escalate into a larger disturbance. To prevent tensions from rising further, Jake chose to leave the location.
Jake made that decision to keep the situation under control and prevent any further problems from occurring at the scene.
“Actually, the situation was perfectly safe. But the person who allegedly posted the content appears to have indications of provoking the situation,” Jake concluded, as conveyed by a JM source. (X)
