Search Operation Expanded to Sea and Air After Engine Failure Between Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan
Bali–WordWartaGlobal.Id The search for three crew members of the fishing boat Baliman, reportedly stranded after an engine failure in waters between Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan, Bali, remains underway.
The three missing persons consist of two crew members and the boat's captain. The latest information received on September 13, 2026, indicates that their whereabouts remain unknown.
The incident was initially reported to the Indonesia Samudra Shipyard Association (AGSI) by Pasek, a resident of Tanjung Benoa.
AGSI Chairman Alif Fian Nurcahyamto, accompanied by Secretary-General Febri Hantari, S.H., immediately coordinated with relevant authorities, including Basarnas, the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), the Harbormaster and Port Authority (KSOP), and Water Police (Polairud).
Twelve People Were Reportedly on Board
According to the initial information received by AGSI, the Baliman was carrying 12 people:
- nine Swedish nationals;
- two crew members; and
- one captain.
The boat was reportedly experiencing an engine failure after running out of fuel while operating in the waters between Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.
The families of those on board subsequently sought assistance from Bali Wahoo.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. WITA, the nine Swedish passengers were successfully evacuated to shore and reported safe.
The situation, however, remained critical for the three crew members who were still aboard the boat.
Night Search Produced No Result
At approximately 7:30 p.m. WITA, authorities and AGSI were informed that the three crew members were still at the location.
Basarnas subsequently led a joint search operation involving the Indonesian Navy and Water Police.
The first night search was conducted from approximately 9:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. WITA.
The operation was temporarily suspended after the search team reportedly had only around 40 percent of its available fuel remaining, creating an additional safety risk if the operation continued through the night.
The search resumed the following morning.
At approximately 9:00 a.m., the KN Arjuna vessel was deployed to conduct a maritime search.
However, the search had yet to produce a confirmed sighting of the three crew members.
Search Efforts Expanded to the Air
With the maritime search still yielding no confirmed result, the operation was expanded to the air.
A SGI helicopter operated by Basarnas was deployed to conduct an aerial sweep of the search area.
The operation is therefore being conducted through both sea and air assets, in an effort to increase the possibility of locating the missing crew.
As of the latest report received by WartaGlobal.Id, there has been no official confirmation that the three crew members have been found.
AGSI Continues Coordination
AGSI Secretary-General Febri Hantari, S.H., said the association continues to maintain communication and coordination with the relevant stakeholders involved in the search operation.
AGSI has also received a mandate from Jro Bendesa of Tanjung Benoa, I Made Wijaya, to continue monitoring and supporting the search for the missing crew members.
For AGSI, the operation must remain focused on one priority: ensuring that every possible effort is made to determine the whereabouts of the three people still missing.
Facts Must Remain the Foundation
At this stage, several important details—including the boat's exact last known coordinates, its last communication, weather and sea conditions, and the precise circumstances surrounding the loss of contact—still require confirmation from the competent authorities.
What is currently established from the information received is straightforward:
Nine passengers were successfully evacuated, while three crew members remain missing and the search operation is continuing.
In a maritime emergency, speed matters. But so do accuracy, coordination and verified information.
The waters between Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan can present challenging operational conditions. Therefore, every development must be based on confirmed information rather than speculation.
