Electric Cars: Owners Break Even in Three Years and Enjoy Lower Operating Costs.

Sunday, April 9, 2023

WORLD.WARTAGLOBAL.id - Electric cars have become increasingly popular in recent years due to their environmental friendliness and cost savings on fuel. Furthermore, several countries have implemented policies and incentives to encourage the use of electric vehicles. One of the advantages of owning an electric car is its lower operating costs compared to conventional fuel-powered cars.

A recent study suggests that electric car owners can "break even" after three years of ownership. The study was conducted by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), a UK-based nonprofit organization focused on energy efficiency and sustainability. EST analyzed the costs and benefits of using electric cars and conventional fuel-powered cars over a three-year period.

The results showed that electric car owners can save up to £5,000 (approximately IDR 100 million) over three years of ownership. The operating costs of electric cars are lower because they use electricity as fuel, which has a more stable price and is not affected by fluctuations in oil prices. Additionally, electric cars require less maintenance because they have fewer mechanical components than conventional fuel-powered cars.

However, the initial cost of purchasing an electric car remains a barrier for some people. Electric cars are typically more expensive than conventional fuel-powered cars. Nevertheless, several countries provide incentives and subsidies to encourage the purchase of electric cars, which speeds up the return on investment.

When purchasing an electric car, owners must also consider the charging infrastructure. Although there are increasing numbers of public charging stations available, there are still fewer than conventional fuel stations. Therefore, electric car owners also need to consider the cost of installing a charging station at their home.

In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and meet the targets of the Paris Agreement, many countries are committed to reducing the use of fossil fuel-powered vehicles. With the increasing number of policies and incentives supporting electric car usage, as well as their lower operating costs, it may become a smarter and more sustainable choice for car owners in the future.
