Bali does not have gold mines, nickel, coal, or oil. But Bali has wealth that is far more valuable: land, people, and culture. The three are one inseparable entity. And of the three, land is the main foundation. Without land, culture loses its place. Without land, Balinese people lose their living space and artistic space.
Today we are witnessing a worrying phenomenon: Balinese lands are sold, released, exchanged for money that quickly runs out. In fact, land is not just a physical object. Balinese land holds history, prayers, and ancestral heritage.
Selling Balinese land is the same as selling the future of our children and grandchildren.
Imagine when the land runs out and is owned by outsiders, where will our children and grandchildren build houses? Where will they dance, make ogoh-ogoh, chant hymns, or hold traditional ceremonies? Land is not just about the economy, but about the space of identity and the sustainability of Balinese culture.
Therefore, we must stop. Stop selling Balinese land. Start realizing that the true value of land cannot be measured in rupiah. We must pass on land to the next generation like we pass on family names, temples, and culture. If land continues to be sold, then Bali will slowly disappear from within ourselves.
Let us raise awareness together: protect the land of Bali like we protect our own souls. Don't sell land, teach the younger generation to love and manage it.
Pass on land, don't pawn land. Because land is the breath of Balinese culture, and without land, there is no Bali that we can call home.
