Two containers, originally seized by the Customs and Excise Office (Bea dan Cukai) and slated to be stored in the official warehouse at Tanjung Uncang, Batam, were controversially rerouted to Sagulung on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The containers, along with three trucks used for transportation, are currently held by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Polresta Barelang.Zaky Firmansyah, Head of Bea and Cukai Batam, expressed serious concern regarding the deviation from the standard protocol.
“This is a critical matter that raises questions about who authorized this rerouting,” he stated firmly on Monday, November 17, 2025. Zaky emphasized the agency’s unwavering commitment to cooperate fully with police investigations and to enforce strict disciplinary actions against any implicated officers.
“Those found guilty will face consequences without exception,” he added.Polresta Barelang Chief Commissioner Zaenal Arifin confirmed that the investigation remains active, focusing on tracking the containers’ movement, identifying all involved parties, and uncovering any abuse of authority. “The inquiry is being conducted professionally, free from any interference. All responsible parties, including any officials involved, will be prosecuted to prevent further leakage of state assets,” Zaenal declared.
This incident adds to the ongoing challenges faced by Bea and Cukai Batam in combating sophisticated smuggling practices and safeguarding national resources.
