A harsh warning has been issued by the Directorate General of Immigration. Indonesia is not a place for online fraud syndicates to wash their sins. The message was delivered directly by Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko after the bust of 210 foreign nationals allegedly running an investment scam in Batam, Riau Islands.
“We do not tolerate any form of crime. Do not let our country become a place for scammers,” Hendarsam asserted at a press conference in Batam on Friday.
The message is clear. Immigration has had enough. Indonesia has been used as fertile ground for online fraud by foreign networks for too long.
210 Foreigners Arrested, a Wake-Up Call for the Government
The raid on 210 foreigners at once is no small case. This is an emergency alarm. Hundreds of foreigners entered, stayed, and allegedly operated scam machines from Batam. How many Indonesian victims have already been drained? How many billions have flowed overseas?
Hendarsam said this case will be a total evaluation. “With this phenomenon of 210 foreigners, we will look further ahead at our preventive steps against certain countries that are ‘producers of scammers,’” he said.
That means there are countries deliberately exporting fraudsters to Indonesia. And until now, they’ve been getting in far too easily.
Tighten Entry Points, Strengthen Intelligence
The Director General of Immigration isn’t playing around. He demands stronger intelligence functions and total screening at all Indonesian entry points. Air, sea, land. Everything must be guarded.
“We must strengthen early detection, field intelligence, and the capability of our human resources at the borders to conduct strict screening,” Hendarsam stressed.
The message to all Immigration ranks: stop getting caught off guard. Don’t let a second, third, or fourth Batam pop up in other cities. Bali’s happened. Jakarta’s happened. Batam’s happened. Enough.
Indonesia Is Not a Hideout for Criminals
Hendarsam’s statement is a declaration of war. War against international scam syndicates that think Indonesia is weak. That assume they can come as tourists, then open fraud offices in shophouses.
Now the rule is clear: Indonesia is not a safe haven. Come to scam, get busted immediately. Come from a scammer-producing country, expect extra tight screening.
The ball is now in the court of Immigration, Police, and all law enforcement. The public is waiting for proof, not just press conferences. 210 foreigners have been arrested. The question is: how many hundreds more are still operating behind apartments, villas, and shophouses across Indonesia?
