BADUNG — Word Warta global.Id. Bali’s exit point has once again become an important area for monitoring foreign nationals (WNA). The Ngurah Rai Class I Special Immigration Office for Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) intercepted an Australian national identified by the initials BA, who is allegedly linked to a video depicting an indecent act that went viral on social media.
BA was intercepted on Tuesday (August 25, 2026) at around 12:00 p.m. WITA, while attempting to leave Indonesia through the Departure Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The case began with the circulation of a video on Saturday (August 23) showing an alleged indecent act in the yard of a resident’s house in the North Kuta area of Badung, Bali.
The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office subsequently conducted an investigation through its Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team (Inteldakim) and coordinated with the North Kuta Police Sector to cross-check the information and establish the chronology of events.
Not Just Viral, Immigration Data Set in Motion
What is notable about this case is not merely that the video went viral, but how the information was translated into concrete monitoring measures in the field.
Through the Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM), officers identified an Australian national who was allegedly connected to the incident.
Immigration then entered the individual’s data into the Subject of Interest (SOI) system. This measure enables the system to issue an alert when the person crosses an Immigration Checkpoint (TPI).
The result became evident when BA was detected by the system while in the departure area of Ngurah Rai Airport.
Immigration officers then took action to secure BA and coordinated with TPI officers and the Badung Police.
BA was subsequently handed over to the Badung Police to undergo legal proceedings in accordance with the Police’s authority.
The Exit Gate Is Not a Way to Escape
The BA case demonstrates that immigration supervision does not stop once a foreign national is already inside Indonesian territory.
In fact, when a foreign national attempts to leave Indonesia, immigration data can serve as an important instrument for detecting individuals who have already been placed under monitoring.
Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Muhamad Novyandri, emphasized that public information concerning alleged violations by foreign nationals is followed up through investigation and coordination with relevant agencies.
Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, also emphasized that monitoring foreign nationals is part of efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, relying on intelligence, technology, and cross-agency cooperation.
Nevertheless, an important principle that must be maintained is the presumption of innocence. Going viral on social media is not a legal verdict. BA’s status as a person allegedly connected to the incident must still be established through investigation and formal criminal proceedings by law enforcement authorities.
The Public Deserves Certainty
This case also puts the quality of coordination between Immigration and the Police to the test.
Immigration has carried out its immigration-monitoring function by detecting BA when he was attempting to leave Indonesia. After being handed over to the Badung Police, establishing the elements of any criminal offense falls within the authority of law enforcement.
The public is now waiting for clarity: what actually happened in North Kuta, who was involved, whether the video is authentic, and what legal provisions will ultimately be applied to the person being investigated.
The case should not end merely with its viral status while the substance of the incident and legal accountability remain unexplained.
For Bali as an international tourism destination, monitoring foreign nationals is not merely a matter of tourism image. It concerns legal certainty, public protection, and the authority of the state within its own jurisdiction.
Immigration urges the public to report suspected immigration violations or criminal offenses involving foreign nationals through official Immigration channels or the nearest immigration office.
